Art and the Journey Onward

Ahhhh art. It’s given me a new approach to life. To set aside behaviors that no longer serve me well and discard relationships that I’ve outgrown.

I’m reexamining my past in real time, so I can move forward. Which means I’m lowering my expectations in an attempt to minimize disappointments. After all, there’s no point in tripping over myself, trying to avoid my feelings.

They’re everywhere! Feelings are the stuff that we’re made of, for better or worse, we trudge forward in life always carrying them, making them and well… feeling them. What they become and how we respond in their becoming can and does add layers to our being. Maybe that’s the way it’s supposed to be… If they’re painful, like an open wound, they leave scars, giving us character.

It’s those feelings that ai can’t give us and can’t relate to. Empathy, a reminder of where we’ve been, what we’ve overcome, that is we’ve survived and endured. We’d be less without them. They’re markers in our growth, circles of our youth, like a tree’s rings go round and round, until we learn to let go.

On a side note, I don’t like Ai. I don’t like things that can’t and don’t feel. Someone told me that Ai can be programmed to have feelings… wait, what??? Who’s doing the programming? In a digital world that’s unjust, trusting Ai with feelings, might be the equivalent of trusting Ai without feelings. Either way; things can go very wonky.

Underneath it all, carried forward, are the unresolved feelings of us They form our attitudes, impact our decision-making abilities and formulate our thoughts. So here we sit…

Truth is, we all have a story. We all need a comfy chair. I didn’t grow up with one, but I wished for it. I imagined it would be my safe haven, a place to escape while reading all of the banned books (Why’s that a thing in a place called “United” and where speech is free?)

Art has given me a comfy chair. Go get yours.
